Daigo Stardust Articlein CD DATA, July 2005PLEASE DO NOT DIRECT-LINK/HOTLINK THE FOLLOWING PICTURE!
It's been 11 months since his last song. And now DAIGO STARDUST's new song has come! During this long interval, he has done a lot of self-searching and introspection as an artist. "I've thought about how Daigo Stardust would convey his music and how he would be seen from now on."
The winning solution is to go back to basics. "Ever since I debuted, I was always '
Let's be colorful and fancy!'. [...] And now, well, it's not like I hate it and I won't even deny that I've ever done that. But I'm a musician. So the first thing that I have to think about first is the way I want to present my music and my songs."
The materialization of that idea comes in the shape of [SCAPEGOAT]. The driving sense of the overflowing music is a rock tune injected with lewd essence (??).
"Since now I'm old enough, I think I can say that my natural and mature sexiness comes out more (LOL). But basically my real personality doesn't change. It's more like, if I could give an example, '
I want to wear this!' kind of thing." (#01)
For the recording of this song, new recording members were welcomed, such as HEESEY and Kikuchi Eiji of the former YELLOW MONKEY. The band's rich sound feeling and Daigo's sexy song style fusion makes a grand combination.
"I'm really happy to be able to do it with such admirable people (#02). The two of them elicit such a great musical power that I was able to learn from them."
Now releasing a CD that exposes new companions on his sides, he jumps into the third year of his career.
"Being vacant for almost a year means, in a certain sense, starting from zero again. I want to spread out my music and my existence with a good form. Anyway, now is the 3rd year. I want to do my best on the 4th year!"
Translation Notes
#01: What he's trying to say, I think, is that he's more grown up, focused and knows what he wants. Such as in clothing, he prefers wearing something toned down and best suit his real personality.
#02: literally: the people I admire.
I'm so not confident with this translation. Working on a translation past midnight can fry your brains and confidence. I think I got the gist of it but I'll make further changes in the future.Daigo. Wow. He's changed. I think we're going to see a new musical and image concept from Daigo Stardust, the singer, that is not as 'glam' as it used to be. To be honest, this is kind of shocking. Daigo? Not glam? But perhaps he's thinking about how people could take him more seriously because for him, the music is more important now.
I'm still not sure what he means by 'going back to basic'. But I suspect that he's going to be playing harder songs, like in his indie days. If that's the case, I don't think I will mind at all. :) Although I didn't follow his career since the beginning and only heard some of his older works
after I hear his songs from the major debut period, I have to admit that his old sounds appeal to me a lot. So, there should be no worry. After all, he did say that the core of his personality, his
real self, won't change.
What I really want to say is that I welcome any changes that Daigo plans for his music and/or for his image, whatever that may be. As long as he entertains me, that should be enough. <3
Lastly,
please don't post this article translation elsewhere without permission.
Honestly, after reading it... it did/does make me a quite sad. Because it really does sound like he isn't going to be the ultra Glam Daigo that I fell in love with, and that's difficult to imagine. I don't want to picture a sparkle-less, glitter-less, toned-down Daigo ;-;
...but really, I shouldn't be so broken up about it. He looks darn good in that picture above XD And, more importantly, Scapegoat sounds really, really promising too(also, the fact he is participating in a show called "Tokyo Neo Glam Rockstars" is very encouraging as well...), and it's like you said... as long as he remains entertaining. And doesn't stop making the excellent music he has been making all along. That should be the most important thing, and I wouldn't stop supporting him if he did just that. I just can't help but have these silly attachments to certain images... ^^;
I wonder though... if he wants to be taken more seriously from now on, does that mean he is going to drop the "Stardust" from his name...? Because that was one of the very things I have seen him be mocked for(regrettably)... so I really do wonder if that is a possibility... let's hope not!
